Purpose and Operating Processes of Urban Waste Transfer Points

Waste Transfer Points, established to improve logistics efficiency and protect urban quality of life in solid-waste management projects, are strategic transfer centres serving as a bridge between urban collection vehicles and the main disposal/power-generation facility.

Main Purpose and Advantages

The system’s main purpose is to prevent small-capacity collection vehicles from travelling long intercity distances. Its principal benefits are:

Reducing Traffic Congestion

Hundreds of small trucks are prevented from making long journeys to the main facility, substantially relieving urban and ring-road traffic.

Fuel and Operational Savings

Using high-capacity heavy trucks for long-distance transport significantly reduces total fuel consumption and carbon emissions.

Environmental and Social Benefit

Reducing the number of heavy vehicles circulating in the city prevents exhaust-related air pollution and noise pollution, contributing to public health.

Collection and Local Transport

Small refuse trucks routinely collecting waste from neighbourhoods and streets complete their collection rounds.

Transfer to Transfer Points and Loading onto Large Vehicles (Compression)

Transfer to Transfer Points: Collected waste is brought to 2–3 local transfer points, each with a capacity of 10 tonnes, located at strategic points in the city.

Loading onto Large Vehicles (Compression): Waste temporarily accumulated at the transfer points is quickly and efficiently transferred to high-tonnage logistics vehicles (80–100-tonne heavy trucks), and its volume is reduced by compaction where necessary.

Dispatch to the Main Facility

High-capacity loaded trucks depart the transfer points and safely deliver the waste directly to the main power plant and disposal facility.
